Essay on "first disclosures", a particular genre of "fieldwork confession", where individuals disclose intimate stories that they claim to have never shared before. Based on the case of Juan, a man in an addiction rehab centre in Sinaloa, Mexico, the author reflects on the complexities of witnessing such confessions, the impact on both the confessor and the listener (the anthropologist in this case), and how these disclosures can shape relationships, knowledge, and understanding.
